Safety Issues Cause Chrysler to Recall 144,000 Dodge Vehicles

December 31, 2010 – According to reports Chrysler is recalling 144,000 Dodge vehicles over safety issues.
The recalls of Dodge vehicles involves three safety issues according to Chrysler Group and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Dodge Journey 2009 models are being recalled for a faulty wiring issue that can prevent the side airbag from deploying. This recall involves 65,180 vehicles and the recall notice states “the wires in the front door wire harness might fatigue and brake, which can interrupt the circuits for the side impact sensor. This can result in an airbag warning lamp ululation and can cause loss of side crash sensing capabilities.”

Chrysler dealers will replace the left and right door wiring harness and the recall is scheduled to begin in February.
Dodge Ram 1500 trucks in the 2011 models are the second of the vehicles to be recalled and this recall involves 56,611 Dodge Rams. The safety issue with these vehicles is reported as a noise that is a growling or grinding sound from the rear axle bearing. This could cause the bearing to seize and the vehicle to stall.

The third vehicle recalled is the Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500 trucks and will include 22,274 vehicles in the recall. The reported safety issue with these is the vehicles might experience a weakening and fracture of the left ball stud on the tie rod. DePuy Hip Recall Issued Due to Metallic Poisoning Danger

Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Orthopedics Inc. issued a recall of all ASR Hip Implant Systems. In May 2010 there were a reported 40,000 DePuy hip implants that were under review, according to the London Times, in Great Britain. This was due to physicians linking the hip replacements with metallic particles, they believed responsible for hip pain, muscle damage, soft tissue damage, vision loss and hearing loss.

In a report released by the National Joint Registry showed the replacement hip had a 13 percent failure rate in the first five years after surgery. It was estimated that one in eight of the hip replacement patients would need to undergo surgery a second time for a new hip replacement.

The National Health Institute of Health published a research report that the hip implant was a faulty device that was necessary to have removed and the patient should be treated for metallic poisoning.

Chromium and cobalt, the heavy metals in the hip replacement were found to enter the circulatory system through the lower part of the hip and acts as a way for toxic debris to enter the bloodstream.

Patients with a hip replacement are urged to visit the physician immediately for comprehensive diagnostic tests to determine if there is hip implant failure damage. This testing will also show the presence of toxic metals in the bloodstream, which will need to be treated.

Honda Recalling 1.35 Million Fit Subcompact Vehicles

There will be 143,083 of the Fit vehicles that are affected recalled in the Unites States, according to Honda. The Honda Fit models that are being recalled are between the years of 2007 and 2008 and the owners will receive notification from the company.

Honda announced Thursday that it plans to recall 1.35 million of its subcompact cars Fit due to headlight wiring issues. The headlight issue can prevent the low beams on the vehicles to not work.

According to a Honda statement the recall is due to a problem with the routing of the wiring harness for the headlight control switch. With repeated use the headlight control switch can become warn. The warn plating on the wiring harness, according to Honda can result in corrosion, which can cause the connector to overheat and fail, causing a lower of low beam headlight function.

Honda dealers will inspect the Fits and will replace the wiring harness terminal on the affected vehicles. Consumer Product Safety Commission Bans Drop Side Cribs

Over the past five years there have been over 9 million drop side cribs recalled, according to New York Democratic Senator Kirstin Gillibran, who pushed the legislation to outlaw the drop side crib.

According to a vote by the Consumer Product Safety Commission they have unanimously voted to ban the manufacture, sale and resale of the drop side crib. This is cribs that have side rails that move up and down to allow parents easy access to the infant.

Over the past decade there have been more than 30 deaths of infants and toddlers and millions of cribs recalled.
The new standard for cribs will require having a stationary side and will take effect in June 2011, this will include hotels and child care centers that will be required to purchase new cribs. According to the CPSC they will have a year to replace the cribs.

According to Inez Tenenbaum the CPSC chairman the new standards for cribs comes after the drop side cribs in recent years have caused a danger to infants and toddlers with malfunctioning hardware. Plastics and assembly problems can lead to the drop side rail becoming partially detached creating a V shaped between the mattress and side rail, which can allow the infant to be caught, suffocate or strangle.

Since 2000 there have been at least 32 deaths associated with drop side malfunctions and is suspected in at least 14 more infant fatalities. Toyota Recalling 94,000 Sienna Minivans

According to Toyota they are not aware of any accidents or injuries due to this issue and no other model braking systems are affected.

December 14, 2010-According to reports Monday Toyota issued a recall of 94,000 of its Sienna minivans. Torrance based Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. announced the recall, if for the brake light system. According to Toyota the proximity of the stop lamp switch bracket to the parking brake pedal when the brakes are fully applied. The stop lamp switch bracket in some instances can become deformed by the driver’s foot when using the parking brake.

This deformation could cause the brake lights to remain on, or in certain instances could cause the brake to become partially engaged due to contact from the bracket. This could result in brake drag, brake noise, brake vibration and the brake warning indicator light. Continuing to drive the vehicle could cause the brakes to be less effective.

According to Toyota they are not aware of any accidents or injuries due to this issue and no other model braking systems are affected. Toyota will be sending owners an interim notification in mid-January to advice of the recall and with instructions on what should be done if this issue is experienced. Late February a second notice will be sent to owners when the parts are available to fix the brake light system issue. Myer Trading Cast Iron Skillets Sold by QVC Recalled

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Meyer Trading Company Limited, of Hong Kong China have announced a recall of about 7,500 enamel coated 8-inch cast iron skillets.

The cast iron skillets were sold through QVC televised shopping programs, QVC retail and employee stores, between August 2009 and September 2010.

The enamel coating can come off of the skillet when heated, which can be a burn hazard. The skillets sold between $28 and $35 and were manufactured in China and involves Technique brand 8-inch enamel coated cast iron skillets.

Consumers should stop use of the skillets immediately. The ordered skillets from QVC have been mailed instructions how to obtain a refund and consumers that purchased the skillet at a QVC store should return it to the store for a full refund. Orange County Company Pork Products Being Recalled

The pork products included in the recall are 11 ounce packages of Kim Loan Gio Song Pork Paste and 14 ounce Kim Loan Chien Fried Pork Loaf that were produced between January 22, 2010 and December 6, 2010.

A recall has been issued according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, involving two pork products from an Orange County Company.

The pork products recall has been issued, because the labels do not identify wheat as one of the ingredients, to warn those allergic.

According to the USDA the Wednesday recall there was over 2,000 pounds of raw pork paste and ready to eat fried pork loaf from L & R Fashions in Garden Grove. Seattle Redline Bicycle Recall

The recall is due to a falling hazard that can occur due to the head tube that can spate from the frame. This can cause loss of control of the bicycle and fall, which could result in serious injuries.
